FAQ
What is Persistfolio?
Persistfolio is a quantitative portfolio research platform that constructs and prospectively tracks standardized, rules-based model portfolios using a proprietary deterministic methodology.
What is a Persistfolio model portfolio?
A Persistfolio model portfolio is a standardized portfolio of S&P 500 companies selected and weighted according to Persistfolio's quantitative methodology. Model portfolios are published for different analysis horizons and portfolio sizes.
How are companies selected?
Companies are evaluated using a consistent, rules-based quantitative methodology applied identically to every company under consideration. Persistfolio does not use discretionary stock selection or make subjective judgments about individual companies.
What does "persistence" mean?
At a high level, persistence refers to the historical consistency of a company's performance relative to the S&P 500 over a defined analysis period. Persistfolio's methodology is designed to distinguish persistent historical relative performance from short-term or isolated periods of outperformance.
The specific formulas, statistical thresholds, scoring mechanics, and implementation details used by Persistfolio are proprietary.
What are the 5Y, 10Y, and 15Y horizons?
Persistfolio independently analyzes companies over three historical analysis horizons: 5, 10, and 15 years. Each horizon produces its own separate model portfolios.
Why are there different portfolio sizes?
Persistfolio publishes model portfolios containing 5, 10, 20, or 30 companies. These provide different levels of portfolio concentration and diversification while applying the same underlying rules-based methodology.
Are Persistfolio model portfolios equal-weighted?
Yes. Persistfolio model portfolios are equal-weighted at construction, with each company receiving the same initial allocation.
How often are portfolios reviewed?
Model portfolios are reviewed on a predefined schedule using the same rules-based methodology. See the Methodology page for more information about how portfolios are constructed and maintained.
Can portfolio holdings change?
Yes. When a company no longer meets the applicable qualification criteria, it may be removed and replaced according to Persistfolio's predefined methodology. Portfolio changes are not based on discretionary opinions about individual companies.
How will I know when a portfolio changes?
Portfolio changes are recorded as they occur, including which companies were added or removed and when the change took place. Subscribers can view the history of published model portfolio changes.
How is performance tracked?
After a model portfolio is published, Persistfolio tracks its model performance prospectively against the S&P 500 from its publication date.
Historical or hypothetical analysis, where presented, is identified separately from prospective model portfolio performance. See the Performance page for details.
What benchmark does Persistfolio use?
Persistfolio uses the S&P 500 as its benchmark because the companies analyzed and selected for its model portfolios come from the S&P 500 universe.
Is historical performance a guarantee of future performance?
No. Historical performance and historical persistence do not guarantee future results. Prospectively tracked model portfolio performance also does not guarantee future performance.
Does model portfolio performance represent what an investor would have earned?
No. Persistfolio tracks the performance of standardized model portfolios, not individual investor accounts.
An investor's actual results may differ because of trade execution, transaction costs, fees, taxes, timing of trades, contributions and withdrawals, and other individual circumstances.
Does Persistfolio manage my investments?
No. Persistfolio publishes quantitative research and standardized model portfolios. It does not manage investor assets or individual investment accounts.
Does Persistfolio connect to my brokerage account?
No. Persistfolio does not connect to or access brokerage accounts.
Does Persistfolio execute trades?
No. Persistfolio does not execute trades. Subscribers independently decide whether and how to use the research published by Persistfolio.
Is Persistfolio research personalized?
No. Persistfolio publishes standardized research and model portfolios. The same published model portfolios are available to every subscriber and are not customized based on an individual's financial circumstances, investment objectives, risk tolerance, or portfolio.
